The Mighty Land RoverLet's be honest for a minute. When you talk about driving off-road, there's only one name that comes to mind right? Land Rover! It's common knowledge that the Land Rover range simply out class anything else when it comes to a mixture of motorway and uneven terrain. They're not called "The Best 4 x 4 x Far" for nothing now are they!
Think about the toughest off-road challenge in the world. It's not called the
Mitsubishi G4 Challenge, or the Toyota G4 Challenge for a very good
reason. Simply put, no other range of vehicles on the planet can compete with the
Land Rover range for an all round, all terrain vehicle.
There are faster, more powerful large 4x4's on the market like the Porsche Cayenne and the higher priced versions of the ML series by Mercedes and there are vehicles purely designed for use off-road like the Humvee (not to be confused with the civilian Hummer version by General Motors) or the Mercedes UniMog. But as stated before, none of these vehicles can compete realistically on both planes with the Land Rover. This strategy has been at the heart of Land Rover's design methods since the incarnation of the very first vehicle to roll off their Solihull production line in 1948. Let us not poke fun at all the pretenders to Land Rovers throne, most of the vehicles mentioned here do what they're designed to do very well. Be it sheer speed on the motorways, or rugged reliability over rough terrain. They have been designed very well to do one or the other. The truth is, if you want a vehicle that performs well on the tarmac and handles splendidly off-road then there is only one realistic option. Need I say it again? Land Rover "The Best 4 x 4 x Far". |
